How long did it take you to lose the baby weight?

When I left the hospital after giving birth, I left in my skinny jeans and it felt great.

Oh wait, that wasn't me, that was my aunt. After both of her kids.

I, on the other hand, left the hospital in yoga pants and didn't get back into my jeans for six months. I have a few pairs that still won't button, but I fear my body shape has simply changed forever.

I gained about 40 pounds with Raffi, probably closer to 45. During my pregnancy I walked a few times a week, lifted a few times a week, and generally ate well. I also gave into my cravings for mozzarella sticks and a classic sundae here and there, but I think I could have done much worse. Still, I gained a lot of weight.

I was about 36 weeks pregnant when I stepped on the scale, only to see that I weighed more than my husband. I knew it was time for me to stop weighing myself.

I'm proud to say that 10 months later I have lost all of my baby weight, plus five pounds. Like I said, I still can't fit in a few of my pants - my belly circumference is still kind of big - but my face, legs and arms are completely normal again. The scale is normal again. It feels so good to feel normal.

Some of my friends sacrifice everything to lose their baby weight in a couple of months, packing in 5 a.m. sweat sessions and hardly eating. I was not like that. My milk supply is greatly impacted by my diet, and I had to be sure to constantly pack in enough calories. If I didn't and tried to diet, Raffi would start nursing every hour.

Instead, I took it easy and tried to follow a healthy diet with the occasional treat. Raffi and I went on walks every day. I lift for 10 minutes in my PJs every morning.

That's it.

It feels great to finally feel like myself. Losing the baby weight wasn't hard work for me, but I let it come off naturally. It took ten long months, but I'm finally here.
